Best Classic Americano Method (Barista Style)
The best way to prepare a classic Americano is the “water first, espresso second” method, which preserves the crema and gives a smoother texture.
What You Need:
- Freshly ground coffee beans
- Espresso machine
- 1–2 shots of espresso (18–20g coffee for a double shot)
- 120–150 ml hot water (85–95°C)
Steps:
- Preheat your cup with hot water (optional but recommended).
- Add hot water to the cup first (about 120–150 ml).
- Extract a fresh espresso shot (25–30 seconds extraction time).
- Pour the espresso gently over the hot water.
- Serve immediately, without milk, to enjoy the authentic flavor.
Why this method is best:
Adding espresso over water keeps the crema intact, reduces harsh bitterness, and creates a smoother, well-balanced taste—just like a traditional café-style Americano.
